In a war-torn world of elemental magic, a young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.
When the hostile Fire Nation threatens to enslave the Water, Earth, and Air Nations, a reluctant and irresponsible boy must face his destiny as the Avatar, the Chosen One who can restore the world order. This new animated series centers on twelve-year-old Aang, who must forgo his selfish wandering to learn to master his latent powers over the four elements. Only then can he conquer the Firebenders, the evil nation that threatens the world.
I was very surprised at how this show turned out. I thought that because it was a Nicktoon, it was going to be childish, like most of their other cartoons. But it had me hooked from the first episode. The animation is great, flowing smoothly from one scene to the next, and there are very few plot holes or continuity errors (wait… are they the same thing???). But what really got me was the detail and personality put into each character. Each main character has a history that comes into play at just the right moments, and is explained fully so I don't have to guess what happened (i.e., Zuko's scar. A very intriguing story behind that). So far, my favorite episode is The Blue Spirit. It had the best animation so far, and it was VERY exciting. The only thing that is a negitive with this series is the music. I find it is kinda repetitive and slightly annoying at times. But Overall, I give this show two thumbs up!
Being the first anime I actually watched (I know this is American but I suppose it still counts)I was a little uncertain whether this was going to be as good as the IMDb score suggested, little did I know that this would come to be my favourite animated series in a couple of weeks. After watching the first 2 episodes I still wasn&#39;t sure whether or not this series had potential, I guess the problem was I was too eager to watch cool bending fights unfold, since now that I re-watched the series this episodes serve as pretty good introduction.But, when I finished episode 3 I knew; from that point on,that this series had it in him.<br/><br/>The series&#39;s narrative has been worshiped by critics and viewers alike; myself included, it feels consistent, partialy because every season shares the same story but because every episode is entertaining and pretty great overall. The characters are very well written, displaying various dimensions of their personality and present realistic emotions/ feelings that can relate to any human being despite living in a different context<br/><br/>The animation style is gorgeous, making element bending look even cooler than what the concept sounds like (seriously, trust me on this one), slashes of water and bolts of fire dance harmoniously during fights, clashing vibrantly in a splash of coulours.<br/><br/>After I finished every last episode there is, I couldn&#39;t help but feel hollow and found it hard to go back to viewing regular animation with my younger brother after spending so much time watching quality animation.<br/><br/>I feel like I&#39;ve bickered long enough about how amazing the series is so i&#39;ll just say this: to whoever feels a little skeptical about this series because it&#39;s &quot;fake anime&quot; or a kid&#39;s show; don&#39;t hold back, it delivers much more than what it seems, and in my eyes, this series is just as good a kid&#39;s show than a regular TV show.

In the series finale, Fire Lord Zuko questions his father on the whereabouts of his mother, but the series ends before it is confirmed that she was found. Zuko finding Ursa was actually storyboarded for the finale by Avatar Director Joaquim Dos Santos, but was nixed by Mike DiMartino - not really sure why but this implies that Ursa most likely is alive. In &#39;The Legend of Korra&#39; the children of Tenzin asks their grandmother, Katara, to tell the story about Zuko&#39;s mother, although she was willing to tell the full story, she got interrupted before telling the story.<br/><br/>However, a comic titled &#39;The Search&#39; was released by Nickelodeon in 3 parts in 2013. The events take place between the end of &#39;Avatar: The Last Airbender&#39; and &#39;The Legend of Korra&#39;. We learn that Ursa, Zuko&#39;s mother, returned to her home village of Hira&#39;a after being banished by Ozai. There she found the man whom she was engaged to, Ikem, before being taken away to become Ozai&#39;s wife. She then learns of a spirit named The Mother of All Faces, and searches for her to receive a new face, and the spirit also removes almost all memories of her past life. When Zuko learns who his mother is now and finds her, The Mother of All Faces returns Ursa&#39;s original face and memories.
